Test ink
Aid for the estimation of a solid’s surface energy: If the test ink contracts shortly after wetting of the surface, the solid’s surface energy is smaller than that of the test ink, if the weting is maintained, the solid’s surface energy is equal or larger than the one of the liquid. Series of test inks with different defined surface energies allow the investigation of a solid’s overall surface energy. However, this method does not allow the determination of the polar and nonpolar portion of the surface energy.
