Lightning discharge
Electrical discharge under high gas pressure, between cloud an ground. The current strength is about 10.000 A. The plasma and the neutral gas along the lightning are heated up extremely fast, the resulting sudden gas expansion causes thunder. Recently it has been found that lightning discharges also take place between clouds and ionosphere.
